Undoubtedly, the allure of the opportunity was strong. Upon hearing about it, I too felt a great deal of interest in exploring it. However, I found myself completely unaware of where to begin and what factors to consider. I had numerous questions: Where are these houses located? What is their current condition? Why are they being sold at such a remarkably low price, almost for free? With these uncertainties in mind, I decided to plan a trip to one of the Italian islands, Sicily and specifically visited cities like Palermo, Catania, and nearby cities where these houses were available for 1 euro. This added an additional dimension to my journey, allowing me to explore these houses and observe the local way of life while also enjoying the beauty of the island itself.

The incredible heritage Italy possesses is the result of the centuries-old accumulation of wealth and civilization. The main factor contributing to this accomplishment is the “Italian model” of culture and the preservation of neglected assets.
Consequently, the management of abandoned properties, whether they are privately or publicly owned, should not be considered a burden but rather a valuable resource for cultural development.
